THE HISTORY OF MEEKER, COLORADO

RBCHS involved in 128th range call

6/29/2011

4th of July week, Range Call Celebration always happens in Meeker. And for many years, the Rio Blanco Historical Society has been involved…bringing history to local residents and visitors who come out for this annual event.

July 4th at 3:00 p.m. on 6th and Main Street, the historic Bank Robbery of 1896 will again be re-enacted, telling the story with local residents acting out the scenes of three ‘wanna’ be’ bank robbers who took their chance in Meeker, Colorado with most of the town packing guns, to attempt a bank robbery like Butch Cassidy had accomplished. This annual Range Call event, is always well attended and enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.

2011 Bank Robbery Re-Enactment

As you can see from the scene in the photo, their attempt failed, and the children going home from school that day were gazing at the dead bodies.

On July 4th, immediately following the parade until 4:00 p.m. after the Bank Robbery, RBCHS will be selling our famous Root Beer Floats, as a fundraiser for the Historical Society.
