Meeker Hotel and Cafe

Arguably the center piece of Meeker, the Meeker Cafe and Hotel has been around since almost the founding of Meeker.  It has been in the same building ever since then, and continues to be something everyone can enjoy. From the president of the U.S. to local residents, this staple of life in Meeker is enjoyable by all. Below you can learn about the history of the building, some of the ghost stories told about the building and what it's like today.
Founding & History
At the beginning of the hotel, it was housed in military barracks. Started in 1884, by Charlie Dunbar, and Susan Wright, it was passed down in 1893 to Susan's brother after both original owners died a few years apart. The new building was constructed in 1893, with only the middle part built. The wings were added 8 years after, housing many different businesses. The stone building then was built. It was built as the new post office and then had many other businesses in it, eventually becoming the cafe. This has been a historic building and great place to stay since the founding. These buildings still stand today, housing both the Meeker Hotel as well as the Meeker Café.

The Haunting of the Meeker Hotel/Cafe
If you talk to anyone in Meeker about the hotels a common story that might come up is the "ghosts" of the Meeker Hotel. A very common local myth about the hotel is that it is haunted by several ghosts. (Don't be alarmed though, they're all very friendly!) Many believe that there are four guests inhabiting the hotel: a young girl, a women, a gambler, and a military man. It is believed that they only appear about once every six months or so. The ghosts radiate a positive vibe, since all the staffers and most guests are very happy to be there!
A very famous story about the hotel is the story of "The painted lady." She is known as a ghost who wears lots of makeup and clothes from the early 20th century. The only things know about her is her room always smells like perfume, like kinds from the 1910's. The room that is thought to be hers hasn't been renovated as much as some of the other rooms, because the staff figures she likes it that way. This is just one of many stories that come from the Meeker Hotel, (one of the most memorable ones) since its founding in the 19th century! There are many more great stories about this building, with rich history and very interesting events behind them.
