Rio Blanco County
Historical Society

In collaboration with the Meeker Public Library, the Rio Blanco County Historical Society will be merging their website and all information onto this site. This website will now serve to tell not only the history of Meeker and Rio Blanco County but will also be used to tell about upcoming events through the RBC Historical Society and White River Museum.

The Rio Blanco Historical Society and White River Museum

Rio Blanco County Historical Society preserves the rich heritage of the White River Valley by capturing oral history, maintaining the White River Museum – which houses numerous artifacts and collections from local pioneers, protecting and interpreting historic sites and providing historic education on many topics to serve the region and all those who travel to this area.
The White River Museum itself is housed in two of the log buildings from the 1880′s that served as officer’s quarters of the federal troops stationed in Meeker, as a result of the Meeker Massacre in 1879 and the infamous Milk Creek Battle, the last Indian Tribe/U.S.Army battle in America. Named one of the last curio museums in Colorado, by the State Historical Society, it is filled with collections ranging from the 1880’s to the 1950’s.
White River Museum is a good resource for family information from the region. Tour groups welcome. Open daily year round (except for Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day). Admission FREE, donations appreciated.
The Museum is located at
